314: Jeremiah Kipp Cuts Flesh and Film

Show Notes

Sadly, only two months after recording this interview in August, 2026, Jeremiah Kipp departed our world. He leaves in his wake an immeasurable influence on the indie and horror film communities. This episode, originally intended to be our Halloween episode, now provides us an opportunity to memorialize this kind, gentle, and extremely talented filmmaker. Jeremiah was an actor’s director. Without a doubt, you will discover a lover of storytelling, the filmmaking craft, and an advocate for artists of all levels. Countless performers credit Jeremiah for believing in them when nobody else did, not even themselves. We are honored to have been able to have this inspirational conversation. You will be greatly missed, Jeremiah.

Jeremiah Kipp was a seasoned writer and director whose work spanned over three decades of independent film. His projects often explored horror and psychological tension, emphasizing character-driven narratives over conventional jump scares. His final feature, THE MORTUARY ASSISTANT (2026) starring Willa Holland (THE O.C., ARROW, THE DIRTY SOUTH) and Paul Sparks (THE LOWDOWN, THE BIKERIDERS, BOARDWALK EMPIRE), is an adaptation of a video game by the same name and is available on AMC+ and Shudder. Our interview starts with a breakdown the “One Little Cut” fight scene from the film. Kipp’s previous film SLAPFACE (2021), also available on Shudder, won the Audience Award at Cinequest. PICKUP (2017) took home the Best Television Award at the HollyShorts Film Festival. During his career Jeremiah had the opportunity to direct such actors as Keith David and Kathryn Erbe in DON’T PICK UP (2024), Tom Savini in THE SADIST (2015), Larry Fessenden in THE POD (2006), and even one of our co-hosts.
